Perhaps that's one reason we had to add more excellent games to this list. Curiously, unlike Nintendo, Sega has given the "okay" to fan-made games - provided no money exchanges hands. Of course, not every company looks kindly on fans who choose to express their love in the form of games. They can also create entirely unique stories or combat mechanics as is the case with Undertale fan games. A few of the games on this were made with the blessing of Sega, and are considered, by many, to be “must play” games in the series.
#BAD SONIC FAN GAMES SERIES#
The Sonic the Hedgehog series has one of the most active fan game communities in gaming. There is no set path you have to take to finish, and there's so much to. The gameplay always feels fast-paced, and I love the open-world approach to the levels. The levels in this game are actually more fun than a lot of the official Sonic games out there. The bulk of these fan-made games are a bit rough around the edges (to be nice), but there are also several examples that rival, and sometimes surpass, the original games. This is the first Sonic fan game I've ever tried, and I'm actually really enjoying it. If Sonic ’06 was going to come out as quick as possible on Xbox 360, it was getting pushed out the door. Sadly Sonic Team and SEGA (more SEGA on this one) just couldn’t learn. Many of the great game series of yore have incredibly loyal fan bases that refuse to let their beloved franchises languish in the past. Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Boom, Sonic ’06 to name a few.
